Electric Vehicle First Responder Awareness

NJBPU’s Michael Hornsby, Chief Project Development Officer of the Division of Clean Energy, recently instructed a class in Electric Vehicle First Responder Awareness at the Somerville Fire Department.
“Incidents involving electric vehicles require the use of new tactics by first responders,” said Mike Hornsby. “As an EV pioneer and (now retired) firefighter, I’m delighted to help firefighters learn about this evolving field. The photos shown are from some of the many fire departments around the state that I have been providing this free service to.”
Over 100 firefighters from multiple Somerset County municipalities attended the program.
As a volunteer firefighter in Princeton, Mike goes out of his way to assemble all different kinds of EV’s to teach other local fire departments on the best practices for putting out battery fires in a safe manner. Mike delivers this course regularly throughout the state.
